Halloween is one day in the year when young-minded adults step back to their carefree childhood and join numerous children in dressing up in colorful costumes and entering the land of pretend.
Not to be left out, the hosts of various TV programs and their live audiences also join in the fun.
The programs that caught my attention this year were:
On NBC — The Today Show. The cast — Matt Lauer, Ann Curry, Al Roker, Natalie Morales and a few of their other NBC co-worker friends – including former Today Show co-anchor Meredith Vieira, who appeared as the Queen Mother – mimicked The Royal Wedding of Prince William and his bride Catherine. The program went all out for the day, completing the fantasy on the plaza with a limo and replica of the palace balcony. Today’s broadcast was absolutely fabulous!
The cast of CBS’s The Talk decided to imitate The Wizard of Oz characters, and the show’s co-hosts dressed-up like the tin man, the cowardly lion, Dorothy, the Good Witch of the North and the scarecrow. Even the little dog, Todo, was present. And one of the guests, the talented, 85 year old Cloris Leachman, made a very Wicked Witch of the West.
Anyone who knows me knows that my absolute favorite TV program is The View on ABC – but not today. I was disappointed in their broadcast, because the Zombie Reality Halloween Spectacular as it was billed was too spooky for me, and it probably freaked out any small children who were watching, too. Newlywed Sherri Shepherd who dressed up like a zombie Flava Flav was definitely over the top.
Now, I ain’t afraid of no ghosts, but I can’t stand zombies and vampires. I haven’t seen a vampire movie in decades. The last one I saw was Steven King’s “Salem’s Lot.” I think it was a year before I was able to sleep through the night without fear that vampires were peeking in my bedroom window. And in answer to your unasked question — no — I have never seen — nor do I want to see – a single installment of the Twilight saga. So, The View gets a thumb down for today’s program. Whooooo!
